MELBOURNE, FL - The #10 nationally ranked MCC women's soccer program beat the #13 nationally ranked Eastern Florida State College Ttians in a 2-0 victory. In an even match on paper, concerning rankings, the Tribunes proved to be the better team. Scoring started early when Mathilda Hellmich (Cologne, Germany), found Sam Cipolla (Rochester, NY), scoring from a distance in the 9th minute, taking an early 1-0 lead which would stand throughout the first half.
Extending the lead, Cipolla found the back of the net again in the 51st minute, this time off an assist by Kayla Baca (Spencerport, NY), doubling the Tribune lead. It was only a matter of time, however, before the Titans would claw back. In the 87th minute, East Florida's Tiggi Gent scored off a Titan corner kick to bring the team within one. Nevertheless, the Lady Tribes were able to hold off the Ttians' comeback and beat the ranked opponent while far from home.
Credit to Clare Boesel (Palmyra, NY) and the rest of the Tribune defense for holding back the Titans in the second half. The Tribunes will hope to finish their Flordia trip 2-0 when they take on #17 Miami Dade College.
