Gaudio Nets Her 100th Career Goal, Tribs Move to #2 National Ranking
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Monroe Community College Tribunes took on a familiar foe, the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks. The Tribunes beat the Riverhawks 13-12. The last time these two teams played Anne Arundel won, 13-12.
On an overcast and humid day, the Tribunes looked to flip the script against Anne Arundel. MCC came out to a roaring start scoring 4 goals in the first period compared to Anne Arundel's 1. Skye Gaudio scored two goals in the first, Lena LaShomb scored one, and Katie Bootes scored the other. To start the second quarter Skye Gaudio scored her third goal of the day. After a lengthy one-hour weather delay the teams were back on the field ready to compete. This delay seemed to have slowed some of the momentum MCC built over the first quarter. Anne Arundel scored 3 unanswered after coming out of the delay. Tinna Mavica, Mia Keen, and Rian Dennis scored those three. Kate Oxley was able to score one for MCC to extend the lead to two goals. Ashlynn Deans scored one for the Riverhawks and shortly after that, Kalani Thomas scored one for the Tribs. Grace Adkins scored the last goal of the second quarter to make the game 7-6 with MCC holding onto the lead.
After the halftime break, Skye Gaudio scored 32 seconds into the third period. Shelby Blanford quickly scored two goals for Anne Arundel to tie the game at 8. Kalani Thomas tipped in a Skye Gaudio pass to score another. Grace Adkins scored one 58 seconds after the Thomas tip-in. Jillian Kordas scored a goal for the Tribunes to put them back up by one goal. Adkins soon tied up the game at 10 going into the fourth quarter. Skye Gaudio scored her fifth goal of the game and the 100th of her outstanding career. Kalani Thomas recorded a hat trick as she put the Tribs up two with 11 minutes left in the game. Grace Adkins and Shelby Blanford quickly tied the game at twelve. After 6 minutes and 25 seconds, the 12-12 tie was finally broken by Skye Gaudio. Skye Gaudio recorded an eight-point game (6 goals, 2 assists). Kalani Thomas recorded a six-point game ( 3 goals, 3 assists). Jillian Kordas recorded a four-point game (1 goal, 3 assists).
The Tribunes have a tough test at home in their next contest against the number 1 ranked OCC Lazers at 4 PM on Thursday.
