Lady Tribs continue winning ways
ROCHESTER - The MCC women's basketball team continued its solid play with a 77-57 win over visiting Genesee Community College in a Western New York Athletic Conference battle Saturday afternoon.
The win was the eighth in the past 10 games for the Tribunes, who improved to 6-2 in the WNYAC and 15-5 overall. GCC falls to 4-4, 16-9.
Monroe jumped out to a quick lead after the first quarter and used the momentum the rest of the contest. The Tribunes outscored the Cougars 24-8 over the first 10 minutes, thanks in large part to a 19-7 edge in rebounding. Samirah Henderson was 5-for-7 from the floor and scored 11 in the frame to put Monroe out in front.
The Tribunes led by 20 at the break before Genesee made a run in the third quarter. The Cougars outscored Monroe 21-11 in the third to cut it to 10, but MCC rebounded in the fourth to put it away.
Henderson finished with a game-high 17 points on an efficient 8-of-12 from the field. Lyrik' Jackson chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Jamiya Eaddy totaled 12 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
