Niagara pulls away, tops Monroe
ROCHESTER – Twelfth-ranked Niagara County Community College used a big fourth quarter to break a tie and come away with a 71-60 victory over No. 17 Monroe Community College in a Western New York Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon.
The Thunderwolves (6-0 WNYAC, 25-0 overall) outscored Monroe 22-11 over the final 10 minutes to break a 49-all deadlock after three quarters. Niagara was 8-of-14 from the field in the final frame, led by nine points and five boards from Kenetria Redfern.
Conversely, MCC (4-2, 12-5) was 4-for-18 from the floor in the fourth. Redfern finished with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists for Niagara.
Niagara led by eight at the break before Monroe responded with a big third quarter. Kendra Lawton had eight points and seven boards in the period alone as MCC held a 21-13 edge in points.
Zorria West led the Tribunes with 14 points to go along with eight rebounds. Lyrik' Jackson scored 11, while Lawton finished with 10 points and 12 boards. Cierra Harrison chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds, Samirah Henderson scored nine, and Jamiya Eaddy had six points, 10 rebounds, and six steals.
The Tribunes struggled from the floor on the day, shooting just under 30 percent. They connected on just one of 19 3-point attempts.
