Lady Tribs cruise past Mercyhurst North East
ROCHESTER – On the strength of five players in double figures, as well as a monster fourth quarter, the MCC women's basketball team powered its way to an 83-57 win over Mercyhurst North East in a Western New York Athletic Conference clash Monday evening.
The Tribunes (3-1 WNYAC, 11-4 overall) led by seven heading to the fourth before outscoring the Saints (1-3, 12-6) 29-10 over the final 10 minutes to win going away. Samirah Henderson scored 10 of her 18 in the frame as Monroe connected on 11-of-19 from the field.
Conversely, a stingy Tribune defense held Mercyhurst to just 1-for-13 from the floor to close it out.
Henderson had a pair of 3's and Zorria West chipped in with five points as MCC led 21-17 after one quarter. The lead was 40-28 at the break.
The Saints took advantage of some cold Monroe shooting in the third to fight back into the contest. But MCC went on a quick 11-2 run to open the fourth and cruised from there.
West led all scorers with 19 points to go along with six boards. Kendra Lawton was a force in the paint all night and finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five steals.
Lyrik' Jackson tallied 13 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals, and Cierra Harrison tacked on 13 points and six boards. Jamiya Eaddy finished with seven points and seven assists.
