Niagara pulls upset on Tribunes
A big fourth quarter propels Thunderwolves.
SANBORN, New York - The unbeaten Niagara County CC Thunderwolves used a monster fourth quarter to stun 10th-ranked Monroe Community College, 84-79, in the Western New York Athletic Conference opener for both teams Wednesday evening.
Niagara (1-0 WNYAC, 20-0 overall), which is ranked 18th, trailed by six entering the fourth before going off for 35 points to escape with the win. The loss snapped a 78-game MCC winning streak against conference opponents.
The Thunderwolves led by five after 10 minutes of play. Monroe (0-1, 8-4) cut the lead to two at the half, and outscored Niagara 26-18 in the third to carry a 55-49 lead into the final quarter.
NCCC then caught fire in the fourth, sparked by Shilah Parker. Parker led both teams with 22 points to go along with 11 boards.
Monroe had a balanced attack as five players hit double figures. Zorria West led the way with 19 points, while Samirah Henderson hit four 3's and scored 15. Jamiya Eaddy just missed a triple-double, totaling 14 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists to go with five steals.
Cierra Harrison knocked down three 3's and scored 13, and Lyrik' Jackson chipped in with 11 points.
