Tribs Split on Final Day in Myrtle, Start Season 5-3
MYRTLE BEACH S.C. – The Monroe Community College Tribunes faced off against St. Clair County Community College in this contest. The Tribunes won this nailbiter 6-5 against the Skippers.
St. Clair CCC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to Makynna Saltzman singling in a run and coming around to score on an error. Nikki Namisniak helped herself by singling in a run and Amanda Linnenbrink doubled home a pair in the bottom of the first to go up 3-2. Makynna Saltzman singled home two more in the second to put the Skippers up 4-3. Morgan Brozak put the Tribunes back on top with a two-run single of her own in the third inning. Alexis Perin singled home one in the fourth to tie the game at 5. The next two innings were a pitcher's duel and MCC walked it off on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh.
Nikki Namisniak starred in this game on both sides of the ball. Namisniak went 4-4 at the dish and also pitched a complete game. She pitched seven innings, gave up five runs, and struck out two hitters. Brozak and Linnenbrink each drove in two runs while Brooklyn Downey collected two hits. Namisniak also stole two bags in this one. Linnenbrink scored two runs and her second helped secure the walk-off on the passed ball.
The Skippers star was Makynna Saltzman who drove in three runs. Saltzman and Perin each collected two hits for the Skips. Kaylie Rickert was in the circle for the Skippers and pitched 5 and one-third innings surrendering 11 hits but only giving up three runs, all three were unearned.
With the Tribunes winners of the last two, they look to ride this momentum into the next game against Patrick & Henry Community College.
GAME TWO
The Monroe Community College Tribunes faced off against the number 9 ranked Patrick & Henry Community College Patriots. The Tribunes had their hands full in this one and fell 11-1.
Tatumn Brim broke the scoreless tie with a two-run triple in the second inning. Morgan Strickland tacked on two more runs with a two-run triple in the third for the Patriots. The Patriots broke the game open in the fourth inning scoring 6 runs to lead 10-0. Greenly Elliot and Rachel Gooch did most of the damage by driving in two runs apiece. Morgan Brozak got the Tribunes on the board in the top of the fifth with a single to drive their lone run in.
As for the Tribunes side of things Linnenbrink started the game in the circle pitching all four innings. Coming off her stellar performance her last time out she was roughed up by the Patriots surrendering 11 runs, nine of which were earned. Morgan Brozak, Mia Arena, and Nikki Namisniak each collected a hit for the Tribunes.
The Patriots were led by Tatumn Brim and Morgan Strickland who each had two hits in this one. Greenly Elliot was able to swipe two bags for the Patriots. Sydney Foster, Greenly Elliot, Morgan Strickland, Tatumn Brim, and Rachel Gooch drove in all the runs for the Patriots in this one. Strickland started in the circle and pitched four innings allowing just one earned run.
MCC finished the tournament with a 5-3 record. With the tournament all wrapped up, they shift their focus to Thompkins Cortland Community College for their home opener on March 30th.
