MYRTLE BEACH S.C. – The Monroe Community College Tribunes opened their season against the Vermont State – Johnson. The Tribunes won the game to start the season 1-0. It was a great season start for the Tribunes as they secured the win 8-4.
The Tribunes got on the board first with a single from Isabella Giorgione collected an RBI single. Vermont State – Johnson made the score 3-1 in the top half of the second inning. Audrey Tembreull doubled in the 3rd inning to make the score 4-2. Amanda Linnenbrink singled in the bottom half of the fifth to tie the game at 4. Isabella Giorgione singled to score a run in the 6th to break the tie. Brooklyn Downing drove in two runs to extend the lead to 8-4.
For Monroe Community College, Amanda Linnenbrink earned the win pitching a complete game tallying 9 strikeouts in the process. Isabella Giorgione and Brooklyn Downey both drove in a pair of runs. Carly Sobaszek and Nikki Namisniak each stole multiple bases, and the Tribunes stole 9 as a team. Grace Allen went 2-3 at the plate for the Badgers and Audrey Tembruell drove in a run for Vermont State – Lyndon.
GAME TWO:
The Monroe Community College Tribunes faced off against Brunswick Community College in their second game of the season. They continued the winning streak and went 2-0 on the day. The Tribunes walked the Dolphins off to win 4-3 in 8 innings.
At the beginning of the game, Isabella Giorgione tied the game at one in the bottom of the third. In the sixth inning, the Dolphins took the lead 2-1. Amanda Linnenbrink tied the game at 3 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Amanda Linnenbrink had another stellar outing on the mound giving up 3 runs, striking out nine, and pitching eight innings.
For Monroe Community College, Giorgione went 3-5 at the plate, also Giorgione had the walk-off single. Carly Sobaszek, Linnenbrink, and Giorgione each drove in a run for the tribunes. Overall, the Tribunes had a strong eye at the plate, walking 7 times throughout the game. Madison Strichek, Zoie Hamilton, and Erin Howdershelt each collected two hits for the Dolphins. Brunswick Community College ran wild on the basepaths, tallying 5 stolen bases for the game.
With the win against Brunswick CC, the Tribunes are 2-0 on the season. They are back in action tomorrow afternoon at 12 against the Vermont State Lyndon Hornets looking to extend their win streak.
