Monroe Falls to Potomac State in Final Day of Spring Trip
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Monroe Softball watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 11-8 loss to WVU Potomac State on Monday. WVU Potomac State scored on a home run by Alexa Shoemaker in the first inning, a error in the first inning, a triple by Ashley Joll in the second inning, and a home run by Jenna Burkhamer in the second inning.
Monroe collected 11 hits and WVU Potomac State had 13 in the high-scoring affair.
WVU Potomac State got on the board in the first inning. WVU Potomac State scored two runs when Shoemaker homered.
Monroe notched four runs in the sixth inning. The offensive firepower by the Tribunes was led by Alex Hajec, Amelia Arena, Allie Schwerthoffer, and Andrea Olsen, who all drove in runs.
WVU Potomac State scored four runs in the third inning. WVU Potomac State's big inning was driven by doubles by Shoemaker and Alexis Bailey and a single by Joll.
Riley Schulze toed the rubber for WVU Potomac State. The hurler went six innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits and striking out five.
Schwerthoffer was in the pitcher's circle for the Tribunes, lasting five and two-thirds innings, allowing 13 hits and 11 runs while striking out three and walking one. Riley Bishop threw one-third of an inning in relief.
Kailee DiGiacco hit her first homerun of the year for the Tribs in the fifth inining.
Monroe totaled 11 hits. DiGiacco, Olsen, and Kaia Gustafson all had multiple hits for Monroe CC Softball. Gustafson, Olsen, and DiGiacco each managed two hits to lead Monroe CC Softball.
WVU Potomac State tallied 13 hits. Shoemaker, Joll, Bailey, and #23 each collected multiple hits for WVU Potomac State.
