MCC Falls to Central Maine in Season Opener
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Monroe CC Softball fell behind early and couldn't come back in an 8-4 loss to Central Maine CC on Friday. Central Maine CC took the lead on a single in the first inning. In the first inning, Central Maine CC got their offense started when Emily Wormwood singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
Central Maine CC scored three runs in the fourth inning. Central Maine CC batters contributing to the big inning included Sarah Poli and McKenna Ridlon, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Olivia Scott led things off in the pitcher's circle for Central Maine CC. The bulldog surrendered zero runs on two hits over three innings, striking out five.
Allie Schwerthoffer led things off on the rubber for Monroe CC Softball. The pitcher lasted seven innings, allowing ten hits and eight runs while striking out seven.
Payge Granger, Amelia Arena, Schwerthoffer, Kailee DiGiacco, Taylor Malchoff, and Kaia Gustafson each managed one hit to lead Monroe CC Softball. Monroe CC Softball tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Ashley Simons led the way with two.
Central Maine CC collected ten hits. Poli and Wormwood all managed multiple hits for Central Maine CC. Poli went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Central Maine CC in hits. Central Maine CC was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Wormwood made the most plays with six.
