Tribs Overcome Offensive Struggles, Prevail to 71-70 Win Over the Titans
DANVILLE, I.L. – The 14-seed Monroe Community College Tribunes faced off against the 19-seed County College of Morris Titans in the first round of the NJCAA Tournament. They continued their great season with a win in the first round but the road to victory was not easy. The Tribunes stumbled out of the gates getting in early foul trouble which would later plague them the rest of the way. Jaden Fleming, Kenneth Tyree, and Mohamed Soumahoro all picked up two quick fouls in the first half and the Titans were able to knock down free throws to score 30 points in the first half. Monroe was able to claw their way within two at the half and J'Zhuan Davis hit a key three as time winded down in the first half.
Building on Davis' three the Tribunes looked to reset coming out of the halftime break. Terrell Williams was able to lead the charge in the second half posting his 16th double-double of the season. Fleming however came out of the locker room as a man on a mission notching 11 of his 13 points in the second half. Fleming was able to score a few key buckets out of the break which sparked the Tribunes' offense in this one. Terrell Williams was able to score 13 of his 19 in the second half. Davon Ellison hit a few key free throws down the stretch to ice this game and earn a victory for Monroe. Despite the shaky start, the 14-seed Tribunes were able to overcome it and earn a 1-point, 71-70, victory over the Titans.
The MCC Tribunes are set to play the Ellsworth CC Panthers at 4 PM on Tuesday, March 19. The Tribunes seek another win and continue their great season.
