Tribunes win a close one over Raritan Valley CC, punch their ticket to the National Tournament
BRANCHBURG, N.J. – The Monroe Community College Tribunes captured their 13th Region III Championship last Sunday and looked to continue to build on a great season against Raritan Valley Community College. The Tribunes have played stifling defense all season and held the Lions 12 points lower than their season average. Treymaire Dodd led the charge on the defense end blocking three shots from the Lions' shooters. Terrell Williams led the Tribunes in scoring with 20 points, rebounds with 9, and steals with three. All season long the Region III Player of the Year has filled up the stat sheet and propelled the Tribunes to a win in this one.
Jaden Fleming played limited minutes in the first half due to foul trouble but his play in the second half helped the Tribunes secure a victory over the Lions. Fleming scored all 15 of his points in the second half including a key free throw down the stretch to extend the lead to five points with 10 seconds left. Mohamed Soumahoro played 17 minutes in this one scoring 12 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. Region III tournament MVP Kenneth "KT" Tyree scored 17 points and went 3-5 from behind the arc. This was a collective effort to secure the win and the Tribunes were led by Terrell Williams like they have been all season. With the victory, the Tribunes punched their ticket to the National Tournament hosted in Danville, Illinois.
