Tribunes Topple Erie 80-60, Program Sets Region III History with 13th Title
ROCHESTER N.Y. - The Monroe Community College Tribunes Men's Basketball Team has joined a class of their own on the court, by capturing their 13th Region III Championship, the most in Region III history by any program. With the capturing of the 2024 Region III Division II Championship it Marked the first time since 2016 that the Tribunes cut down the nets In a thrilling championship match against the Erie Community College Kats, the Tribunes emerged victorious with a score of 80-60. The Tribunes have been a dominant force in the Region III basketball scene for years, and their latest championship win only serves to cement their position as one of the top teams in the country. Led by legendary coach Jerry Burns in his 32nd Season, the Tribunes put up a stellar performance on both ends of the court, on the defensive end the Tribs held Erie to 25.1 Points less than their season average of 85.1 PPG.
For the first 20 minutes of regulation it was a back and forth affair between two of Region III's best programs. The Tribunes would head into the half with a narrow 33-29 lead. The Tribunes came out of the locker room motivated in the second half scoring 47 total points outscoring the Kats by 16 in the final frame. It was the hot-hand of Kenneth "KT" Tyree who drained six three-pointers, scoring 18 of his 23 total points from beyond the arc. Terrell Williams recorded his 15th Double-Double of the season and Trey Dodd threw down two Monster Dunks to stamp and exclamation point on the victory.
