Brandon leads streaking Tribunes past NCCC
ROCHESTER - Majesty Brandon poured in a game-high 31 points to lead the MCC men's basketball team to an 89-76 win over Niagara County Community College on Monagan Court Saturday afternoon.
The Tribunes (3-3 WNYAC, 11-11 overall) have won three straight conference games after dropping their first three. Brandon has been the key during the winning streak, as the sophomore guard has scored 30 or more in each contest.
On Saturday, Brandon connected on 12-of-19 shots from the field, hit a pair of 3's, and was 5-of-6 from the line. He also added seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals on the day.
Keysean Smith was a force in the paint for Monroe, as the freshman center put up 19 points and 12 rebounds. MCC held a 46-36 edge on the glass while also holding the Thunderwolves to 36 percent shooting overall.
Niagara took its only lead of the game at 36-35 on a free throw with 3:10 to go in the opening half. But Monroe responded with a 9-2 run to close out the half and take a six-point lead into the locker room.
MCC clung to a three-point lead with 8:06 remaining before embarking on a game-changing 21-9 run over the next seven minutes to put it away.
