Tribunes Drop Two at Home to Niagara County Thunderwolves
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - After a week of snowfall and postponed games, the Monroe Community College Tribunes baseball team was finally able to take the field again on Tuesday afternoon, hosting the ThunderWolves of Niagara County Community College in a doubleheader. The Tribunes put up a fight but were unable to come away with a victory in either game. The losses bring the Tribunes record to 6-4 on the season.
The game started slow in terms of scoring, but there was plenty of action, as both squads were able to get runners on base and in scoring position. However, the game remained a 0-0 tie through the first three innings. The ThunderWolves opened the scoring in the fourth inning by bringing in three. The Tribunes would be unable to match which brought the score to 3-0 after four. The ThunderWolves scored two more in the fifth inning extending their lead to 5-0. The ThunderWolves would score one more run in both the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 7-0 before the Tribunes would get their first. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Tribunes would score two runs but would be unable to complete their comeback attempt. The final score of the game would be 7-2 in favor of the Niagara ThunderWolves.
Evan Brock went 2-3 from the plate with a single and a double. He also had one stolen base and was walked once.
Tobey Wright went 1-3 from the plate with a single. He also had one stolen base and one RBI. CJ Phelps went 1-4 from the plate with a single and had one RBI.
Joe Wintermute went 2-4 from the plate with two singles. Julien Mendoza went 1-2 from the plate with a single. Joe Grzeskowiak went 1-4 from the plate with a single. Brody Froman went 1-4 from the plate with a single.
Zach Allen pitched 4.0 innings, facing 21 batters, throwing 71 pitches, allowing seven hits, three runs, two earned runs, walking two, and striking out two.
Charles Sobaszek pitched 1.2 innings, facing 11 batters, throwing 55 pitches, allowing three hits, three runs, one earned run, walking two, and striking out one.
Lucas Connors pitched 1.1 innings, facing five batters, throwing 20 pitches, allowing one hit, one run, one earned run, and striking out two.
Game Two
The Tribunes started the second game of the double-header strong, taking a 2-0 lead by the end of the first inning. After a scoreless second inning by both squads, the ThunderWolves were able
to put one on the board and cut the Tribunes' lead in half to 2-1 at the end of the third inning. Three more scoreless innings would soon follow. An already close game would be brought even closer in the seventh inning when the ThunderWolves would score again to tie the game 2-2 after seven and force extra innings. Neither team managed to score in the eighth inning which would force a ninth inning of play. The visiting ThunderWolves would take advantage of the extra inning and score two to take a 4-2 lead over the Tribunes. The Tribunes would fail to respond, giving the ThunderWolves the win with a final score of 4-2.

Alex Simons went 1-4 from the plate with a single and had one stolen base. Paul Fiene went 1-3 from the plate with a single.
Evan Brock went 0-3 from the plate and had one stolen base.
Lucas West pitched 5.0 innings, facing 19 batters, throwing 58 pitches, allowing three hits, one run, one earned run, walking one, and striking out four.
Will Russotti pitched 1.0 innings, facing four batters, throwing 17 pitches, allowing one hit, and walking one.
Jackson Hubbard pitched 2.1 innings, facing 14 batters, throwing 51 pitches, allowing five hits, three runs, three earned runs, walking two, and striking out one.
Lucas Connors pitched 0.2 innings, facing one batter, and throwing two pitches.
The Tribunes will return to action on Saturday, March 30th, 2024 hosting the Herkimer College Generals in a double-header. Game one will begin at 1:00 pm.
