NEW ROCHELLE - In an evenly matched battle, the MCC Tribunes defeated the Monroe Mustangs in a close 1-0 victory. With the intensity high from the beginning, both teams matched the skill and talent of the opponent. MCC had 11 shots in the first half nearly doubling the six shots from Monroe. Despite the active shooting, the match drew 0-0 at the half.
At the beginning of the second half, Olivia Paterniti (Alleghany, NY) broke the tie, scoring unassisted in the 48th minute. Now with the lead, it was only a matter of time until the Tribunes would defeat their rivals.
The losing Mustangs became very aggressive offensively, having nine shots and six corner kicks, giving the Tribunes all they could handle, but the Tribs were able to close the door on the Mustangs, pulling out a 1-0 win.
In addition to Paterniti, Sam Cipolla (Rochester, NY) and Saffron Millar (Wanaka, New Zealand) both were active on offense, each having three shots on goal. Tribune keeper, Clare Boesel (Palmyra, NY), played phenomenally, saving all seven shots on goal from Monroe.
This win only further validates the Tribunes as title contenders. MCC will look to remain perfect as they travel to Melbourne, FL to take on Eastern Florida State College.
