Monroe finishes the season with a record of 18-2.
MELBOURNE, Florida – Taylor Samsel scored with 2:01 remaining in the game to lift Iowa Western Community College to a 3-2 victory over Monroe Community College in pool play of the NJCAA Division I national tournament.
The Reivers advance to the semifinals on Friday. The Tribunes finish the season with a record of 18-2.
Natalie Rogers (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) put MCC on top in the first half before IWCC came back to tie it. Taylor Wingerden (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) then restored the one-goal advantage for Monroe with a goal of her own.
The Reivers then tied it up before halftime.
The second half was scoreless and the contest seemed destined for penalty kicks, but Samsel came through with a low shot that got past Monroe goalie Chloe Crook (London, England/Holy Family) for the game-winner.
