Lady Tribs top Harford, return to national title game
Monroe will face Onondaga Sunday for the championship.
ROCHESTER - The MCC women's lacrosse team raced to a 10-goal lead at the half and cruised to an 18-6 victory over Harford Community College in the semifinals of the 2016 NJCAA women's lacrosse national tournament Saturday afternoon on DiMarco Field.
The Tribunes (17-0) will take on Region III foe Onondaga Community College (13-3) at 1 p.m. Sunday for the title. The Lazers advanced via a 17-6 win over Howard Community College in the other semifinal.
Monroe will be playing for its fourth consecutive NJCAA national championship.
Christie Hahn scored twice in the first five minutes as the Tribunes took an early 3-0 lead. The Fighting Owls answered with their first goal of the contest with 21:03 remaining, but MCC countered by scoring the next eight before the break to take an 11-1 lead in to the locker room.
Morgan Hollenbeck started the run with a pair of goals and Gianna Branca also tallied twice as Monroe took control of the game.
MCC then outscored Harford 7-5 over the final 30 minutes to advance to the title game.
Hollenbeck, Elle MacMillan and Dana Isaacs led the Tribunes with three goals apiece. Branca had a game-high five points on two goals and three assists and Hahn finished with two goals and two helpers. Taylor Excell and Dana Kiselica also scored twice and Zoe Hendricks once.
Sarah Brown made three saves in goal and scooped up a game-high five ground balls for MCC. Isaacs, Hahn, Hollenbeck, and Charity Warner all added four ground balls apiece.
The Tribunes held a 34-10 edge in total shots.
