ROCHESTER - Playing in its second game in less than 18 hours, the MCC women's lacrosse team showed no ill effects in a 20-0 defeat of new Region III foe North Country Community College Saturday afternoon.
The top-ranked Tribunes (6-0) raced to a 15-0 lead at the half and cruised in a win over the Saints (1-1), who are in their first season of competition.
The win was the second in a row in a three-games-in-three-days gauntlet that took Monroe to Frederick, Maryland on Friday, back home Saturday, and will take the team to Nassau CC for a 12 p.m. game Sunday.
Showing an incredible balance against North Country, MCC overwhelmed the Saints from the opening draw. The efficient Tribunes took just 33 total shots, 20 of which found the back of the net. Monroe controlled possession the entire game as North Country did not attempt a shot.
Sixteen different players scored for Monroe, and no player had more than two. Nicole Beatson had two goals and an assist, and Taylor Excell, Charity Warner, and Zoe Hendricks all scored twice.
Gianna Branca chipped in with a goal and two assists, and Dana Isaacs, Devon McKercher, Olivia Roos, and Morgan Hollenbeck each added one goal and one assist.
Melissa Moran tallied a game-high five ground balls to go with five draw controls. Megan Klein and Christie Hahn had four ground balls each.
