Lady Tribs Fall to Niagara in Conference Championship
SANBORN, NY - The Monroe Community College women's basketball team faced a challenging game on Saturday, falling to SUNY Niagara by a score of 72-54 at The Cave.
From the start, SUNY Niagara (25-3) came out strong, quickly establishing a lead of 17-6 after the first quarter. Despite the pressure, Monroe (16-12) fought hard, showing resilience throughout the contest.
The Tribunes had a strong showing in the third quarter, where they outscored SUNY Niagara 24-22, led by Serenity Henderson's standout performance. Henderson finished the game with 17 points, proving to be a key player on offense. Skylah Kemp also made her mark, notching a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
However, the game slipped away as Monroe struggled with turnovers, giving SUNY Niagara extra possessions. The Niagara squad was effective at drawing fouls, converting 22 of their 40 free throw attempts.
The fourth quarter was tough for the Tribunes as they attempted to close the gap but fell short, allowing SUNY Niagara to stretch their lead to 18 points by the final whistle.
NEXT UP: Despite falling in the conference championship, Monroe will take on Uniion College (NJ). In the East B District Championship with a chance to clinch a spot in the 2025 NJCAA DII Women's Basketball Tournament.
