ROCHESTER - Sierra Green came off the bench to score 18, Jaynelle Robinson had a double-double in her first game of the season, and the MCC women's basketball team defeated Mohawk Valley Community College 70-62 in the opener of the Pete Pavia Memorial Scholarship Tournament Saturday afternoon.
The Tribunes (9-2) opened up an eight-point lead at the half before the Hawks rallied to close within one heading to the fourth.
Monroe stretched the lead to 15 thanks in large part to 3's from Green and Shalix Hines. Mohawk Valley made a late run in the closing minutes, but the Tribunes were able to hold on.
Robinson, who broke her thumb in the preseason and was playing her first game of the year, finished with 15 points and 18 rebounds. The 6-foot-3 center had 14 boards on the offensive glass.
