Huge run helps MCC rout Jamestown
The Lady Tribunes overcome a slow start to win going away.
ROCHESTER - The MCC women's basketball team was in an unfamiliar position Tuesday, trailing visiting Jamestown CC 15-6 six and a half minutes into the game against its WNYAC counterpart.
A quick timeout and a change in defensive pressure turned out to be just what the Tribunes needed.
Monroe held the Jayhawks scoreless for the rest of the half, closing on a 23-0 run to help spur the team to a 79-28 victory.
Tyese Purvis (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) scored eight of her game-high 11 during the run, which was highlighted by a suffocating half court trapping defense that forced multiple turnovers.
The Tribunes then started the second half on a 23-5 run to open a huge lead.
Ayana Ratliff (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Loughlin) finished with 10 points in a balanced MCC effort. Dionne Coe (Brooklyn, NY/Murry Bergtraum) added nine points, and Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, NY/JFK), Karin Robinson (Queens, NY/Mary Louis Academy), and Rayia McKnight (Baltimore, MD/Western) all added eight.
MCC forced 33 turnovers on the night.
