ROCHESTER, NY - The #9 Nationally Ranked MCC Lady Tribunes Softball Team returned to Tribune Field to take on the Cannoneers of Jefferson CC, This matchup Featured two of the top Region III Softball Programs. Monroe Community College at 2nd in Regional Standings and Jefferson at 4th in Region III, respectively.
Game One
Game One was a tense affair from the start, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm at the plate.
After three scoreless innings, Monroe struck first in the fourth when Leah Murray hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Nikki Namisniak to score from third base, putting the home team ahead 1-0.
Jefferson Community responded in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly from B. Hardwick that tied the game at 1-1.
The momentum shifted in the seventh inning when Jefferson erupted for three runs. L. Canell initiated the scoring with a double to left field, driving in P. Enghusen. B. Matys followed with a triple, bringing in O. Dalin, and then D. Wiley added another run with a sacrifice bunt, extending Jefferson's lead to 4-1.
However, Monroe was undeterred and mounted an impressive comeback in their half of the seventh inning. Jenny Walter's double brought home Kaydence Morrissete, making it 4-2. This was followed by Brooklyn Downey's two-run double, which tie the game at 4-4, with Walter and Bouchey crossing the plate.
Monroe managed to secure the win in the ninth inning, with Jenny Walter driving in the go-ahead run, ultimately sealing the 5-4 scoreline.
In terms of individual performances, Monroe's Jenny Walter had an impactful game, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs including the Game-Winning RBI-Double.
On the pitching front, Monroe's Amanda Linnenbrink delivered a stellar performance over nine innings, allowing only five hits and striking out 14 batters.
