NIAGARA FALLS, NY - Monroe Softball lost the lead late in a 15-6 defeat to Niagara Community College in game one Friday afternoon. The game was tied at five with Niagara batting in the bottom of the fifth when Sam Steindel singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Monroe CC Softball collected 11 hits in the high-scoring affair.
Niagara took an early lead in the first inning.
After Monroe scored one run in the top of the fourth, Niagara answered with one of their own. Monroe scored when Payge Granger hit a solo homer.
Niagara community scored five runs in the sixth inning to seal the win.
Allie Schwerthoffer was on the rubber for Monroe. The righty surrendered 15 runs on 14 hits over five innings, striking out four.
Monroe had 11 hits in the game. Amelia Arena, Andrea Olsen, and Granger all managed multiple hits for the Tribunes. Arena led Monroe with three hits in four at bats.
GAME TWO:
Monroe fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 10-6 loss to Niagara in game two.
Despite the loss, Monroe did collect eight hits in the high-scoring affair. Riley Bishop started the game for Monroe. The pitcher allowed 11 hits and ten runs over seven innings, striking out six.
Monroe CC Softball tallied two home runs on the day. Kailee DiGiacco went deep in the fourth inning. Andrea Olsen had a four bagger in the sixth inning.
DiGiacco and Olsen all managed multiple hits for Monroe. DiGiacco went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Monroe in hits.
