#20 Tribunes Topple Finger Lakes CC in Home Opener

ROCHESTER, NY - The #20 nationally ranked Monroe CC men's soccer team kicked off their season at home with a bang, defeating the Lakers of Finger Lakes CC 2-0 from John L. DiMarco Field. 

Right from the opening kickoff Finger Lakes tested the Tribune's defense with a shot from Joao Antonio Rocha at 16:02 of the first half, GoalKeeper Matthew Rossi (Toronto, ON) made a remarkable save to set the tone in his Tribunes debut between the pipes. 

For most of the first half, the Tribunes Offesne held the Lakers in their zone tallying a few corner kicks and shots on goal. At 27:15 the #20 Tribs struck first, recording their first goal on a redirected header from freshman Sora Kozaki (Saitama, Japan) assisted by returning forward Liam Cowie (Aberdeen, Scotland). Heading into the half the Tribunes held a 1-0 lead, with five shots on goal, and four total corner kicks. 

It didn't take long for the Tribunes to notch their second goal at 47:45 in the second half, this time on a perfect strike by Hamish Campbell (Edinburgh, Scotland) passed from the Tribunes field general Manato Ogawa (Saitama, Japan). 

Monroe CC would have multiple other close chances on the offensive end, finishing the match with 15 total shots and seven total corner kicks. Matthew Rossi and the Tribune's defense would complete their first clean sheet of the season. in 2023 the Tribunes defense recorded six total shutouts and was 2nd in NJCAA Division One, boasting a Goals Allowed Average of 0.67 GAA Per Match. 

For Monroe, they extended an impressive streak of 19 consecutive games without defeat at home (17-0-2) since early September of 2021.
