Shots Made, Shots Missed: Tribunes Lose in Crusher to Cecil College
MCC's men's basketball team fell short in a nail-biter against Cecil College, losing 66-69. A strong first half couldn’t offset late struggles, leaving the Tribunes eager to bounce back.
ROCHESTER, NY - MCC's men's basketball team lost in crushing fashion to the Cecil College Seahawks, 66-69. The Tribunes held a lead through the first half and much of the second, but could not hold the lead at the end.
Monroe was strong in the first half, outscoring the Seahawks 37-32. The team shot an impressive 45.5% from the court and out-rebounded the Seahawks 20-16. Nile Atwater (Boydton, VA) and Omar White (Brooklyn, NY) each led the team in first-half points with seven and Denarius McCurty (Syracuse, NY) led the team in minutes with 15.
The second half was less productive, with the Tribunes unable to be as effective offensively. The Tribs' shooting percentage fell from 45.5% in the first half to only 23.8% in the second half, and only 7.7% from three. Despite the poor shooting percentage, MCC dominated the glass, grabbing 35 boards compared to only 14 by Cecil. Jaheem Tyson (Brooklyn, NY) was the main reason for MCC's rebounding advantage, grabbing 16 in the second half.
The Tribunes had a chance to tie with guard Christopher Judge (Queens, NY) on an inbound play, but they were unsuccessful. Despite the poor result, the Tribunes showed their capabilities both offensively and defensively and will hope to use this loss as motivation to improve as the season has only started.
