The Tribunes pull away down the stretch.
BUFFALO - Malik Colvin-Seldon and Omar Williams scored 16 points apiece to lead the MCC men's basketball team to a 78-73 win over Erie Community College in the team's regular season finale Wednesday evening.
The Tribunes (16-10 overall) finish 6-4 in the Western New York Athletic Conference standings, which gives them the #3 seed heading to next weekend's Region III, Division II tournament at Niagara County Community College. Monroe will take on Jamestown at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 3 in the semifinals.
Colvin-Seldon and Williams combined to shoot 75 percent from the floor (15-for-20) to lead a balanced attack. Devonte Dixon added 14 points and three steals, including a clutch 3-pointer with 34 seconds left that made it a two-possession game. Kewan Platt contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.
Monroe trailed by one at the half before outscoring the Kats 39-33 in the second half to come away with the win.
MCC shot 58 percent from the floor on the game, which helped offset a 36-27 deficit in rebounding. Erie hauled down 18 offensive boards and held an 18-4 edge in second-chance points.
