BRIGHTON, N.Y. -- Recent woes continued as Monroe Community College Baseball dropped a doubleheader (1-14/3-10) to Erie Community College in NJCAA action at Tribune Field, Thursday afternoon.
Connor Kiefer (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors) supplied Monroe's only run in Game 1 with a solo shot in the sixth inning – his first home run of the year.
Dylan Wanat (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) tripled and walked in the opening loss. Alex Simons (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) finished 1-for-2.
Julien Mendoza (Rochester, N.Y./Fairport) plated Avery Bowens (Rochester, N.Y/Eastridge) with a one-out single in the third inning of Game 2 when Monroe scored two runs to pull within one at 3-2. It was as close as MCC would get for the remainder of the day.
CJ Phelps (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) started the stanza with a single. Bowens reached on a hit by pitch, and Connor Sackett (Rochester, N.Y./Fairport) walked to load the bases.
Phelps came home on a wild pitch, and Bowens moved 90 feet to set up Mendoza.
Joe Grzeskowiak (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) was 2-for-4 in the loss. Bowens and Mendoza also reached on walks.
Kiefer walked and scored in the first inning to give Monroe (10-15) its only lead of the day.
The Black and Gold have dropped eight straight games.
