MCC falls in regional semifinals
Tribunes finish 28-10 on the season.
JAMESTOWN, New York - The 2017 season came to an end for the MCC volleyball team, as the Tribunes fell to Onondaga in the semifinals of the Region III tournament Sunday.
The Tribunes took two out of three matches in pool play on Saturday to advance to Sunday's semi's before falling in straight sets to the Lazers.
Tessa Engel totaled 49 kills, 55 digs, and five aces on the weekend and was named to the all-tournament team. She was joined by fellow sophomore Jala McFadden, who finished with 37 digs and three aces.
MCC opened pool play on Saturday by defeating Erie 19-25, 26-24, 25-22. The Tribunes then fell to eventual champion Jamestown in three sets (24-26, 19-25, 18-25) before rebounding to top Herkimer (25-19, 22-25, 25-14) to place second in the pool and move to Sunday's action.
Onondaga got the best of Monroe Sunday morning in the semifinals, winning 25-17, 25-19, 25-23 to move on to the finals.
Chelsea Steinruck tallied 25 kills, 50 digs, and eight blocks on the weekend. Andrea Green finished with 22 kills, 34 digs, and 19 blocks, Jessie Blumenfeld added 93 assists and 26 digs, and Cherelle Grant had 16 kills and nine blocks.
