MCC women take third at North Country Invitational
Shenal, VanDermeer lead the way for Monroe.
POTSDAM, New York - Alicia Shenal was a triple winner and Ashley VanDermeer took home two individual events to lead the MCC women's swimming and diving team to a third-place finish at the 2017 North COuntry Invitational hosted by SUNY Potsdam over the weekend.
The Tribunes totaled 235 points and trailed only Saint Michael's College (560) and Potsdam (385) in the overall standings. Shenal continued her strong start to the season with a trio of wins. The sophomore took first in the 50 free (25.37), the 100 free (55.03), as well as the 100 back (1:00.99).
VanDermeer excelled as well, placing first in the 200 IM (2:24.22) and the 200 back (2:22.71) while finishing third in the 400 IM (5:10.13).
MCC had a handful of other Top-10 performances. Hannah Cuyler was sixth in the 1650 free (22.02.25) and Jasmine VanScooter placed eighth in the 200 breast (2:56.52). Andrea Toussaint was eighth in the 500 free (6:16.41) and 10th in both the 200 free (2:22.23) and the 100 fly (1:11.85), and VanScooter was the same in the 100 breast (1:24.09).
