NEWTON, New Jersey - Paige McGrath scored in the 63rd minute to lift the MCC women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Essex County College in the semifinals of the NJCAA District E tournament Saturday afternoon.
McGrath's goal, which came off a cross from Bayley Kralik, vaulted the Tribunes (13-2-0) into a Sunday district final matchup with ASA College. It's a rematch of last year's district final, which Monroe won 3-1.
The winner of Sunday's contest moves on to the NJCAA Division I national tournament.
A stingy Monroe back line helped keep Essex at bay for much of the day. The Wolverines got two shots on goal, but Tribune keeper Marykate Eckert was there to turn both away.
After a scoreless first half, Monroe looked to push the tempo and get on the board in the second. Kralik gained control of the ball in the Essex zone and crossed a pass to McGrath, who then notched her 10th goal of the season.
