ROCHESTER - The MCC women's soccer team capped a perfect weekend with a second straight shutout over a Top-10 opponent, taking down No. 8 Owens CC 4-0 Sunday afternoon on John L. DiMarco Field.
The win came on the heels of a 10-0 victory over 10th-ranked Southern Maryland Friday. The Tribunes (2-0), who are ranked 18th, continue their tough early schedule next weekend with home games against No. 1 Iowa Western on Friday and No. 9 Monroe College on Sunday.
For the second straight game, Ashley Williams staked the Tribunes to an early advantage they wouldn't relinquish. The freshman forward took a pass from Maddie Ferris and beat the Owens keeper for a 1-0 lead just 1:39 into the game.
MCC then made it 2-0 in the 11th minute. Jordyn Ruston took a shot that hit the post, and Brie Heitz was there to corral the rebound and put it in. Ruston was credited with the assist on the play.
Monroe then added a pair of goals in the second half. Williams tallied her second of the game, and fifth of the young season, in the 53rd minute to make it 3-0. Ferris added a goal of her own in the 56th minute to provide the final margin. Madison Siclare assisted on both goals.
The Tribunes outshot the Express 25-1 on the game. Monroe keepers Karley Renehen and Meghan Hake didn't have to make a save as they combined for their second consecutive shutout.
