SYRACUSE - The MCC women's lacrosse claimed its seventh consecutive Region III championship with a 24-12 win over host Onondaga Community College Sunday afternoon.
It was the first step in the team's goal for an unprecedented sixth straight NJCAA national title, which the Tribunes (10-0) will compete for on their home turf next weekend. MCC will host the tournament May 12-13 on DiMarco Field.
Brittany Chamberlain paced a relentless Monroe attack with six goals, while Maliah Benedetto, Janee DeLuca, and Kyrsten Stone added five apiece. The foursome proved unstoppable at times as MCC rolled to their 93rd consecutive victory.
The Tribunes led 16-8 at the half before the Lazers scored a couple early in the second to pull within six. But Monroe continually applied pressure and pulled away for the win.
Fran Messura chipped in with a goal and two assists, and Adriana Williams and Sarah Shaffer also scored for MCC.
