Lady Tribs close out regular season with win
ROCHESTER - The MCC women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a convincing 84-49 victory over Jamestown Community College on Monagan Court Saturday afternoon.
Samirah Henderson and Zorria West scored 17 points apiece to lead a balanced attack for the Tribunes, who improved to 8-2 in WNYAC play and 17-5 overall. Monroe is the second seed for the Region III, Division II tournament and have earned a bye into next Saturday's semifinals at Niagara County Community College. The title game would be Sunday at NCCC.
MCC jumped out to a 25-16 lead after the first quarter. Henderson knocked down three triples and scored 11 in the frame. The Monroe defense clamped down in the second, and the Tribunes led 40-26 at the break.
MCC then put it away in the third, outscoring the Jayhawks by 10 to take a commanding lead.
West also finished with 13 rebounds to complete the double-double. Kendra Lawton added 13 points and eight boards, and Lyrik' Jackson also scored 13.
Jamiya Eaddy tallied eight points, six rebounds, nine assists, and three steals. Cierra Harrison and Zairea Hannah added eight points apiece.
MCC held a 51-25 advantage in rebounding and had 19 second-chance points comparted to none for Jamestown. Monroe also scored 30 points off Jayhawk miscues.
