MCC overcomes early deficit to defeat Mustangs
Lady Tribunes stay unbeaten with a 91-78 win.
NEW ROCHELLE, New York - The MCC women's basketball team outscored Monroe College 59-36 over the second and third quarters to overcome an early deficit and go on to a 91-78 victory Saturday afternoon.
The Tribunes (4-0) trailed 20-16 after one quarter before turning up the intensity. MCC scored 32 points in the second quarter to take a 48-40 lead into the locker room, and then proceeded to outscore the Mustangs 27-16 in the third to take control.
Shanice Johnson led the way for MCC, coming off the bench to score 18 points and haul down 10 rebounds. Eight of the rebounds were on the offensive end as the Tribunes held a 41-23 advantage on the glass.
Chelsea Steinruck hit 6-of-7 from the floor - including a pair of 3's - and finished with 17 points. Adre'onia Coleman tallied a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, Shyana McLeod scored 11, and Naje Gibson added 10.
The Tribunes take on Harford Community College on Sunday.
