Coleman, Ayala help Tribunes take regular season finale
MCC heads to the postseason on a 19-game winning streak.
SANBORN, New York - Strong post play was key as the MCC women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season with an 82-69 victory over host Niagara County Community College Saturday afternoon.
The victory bumped Monroe's winning streak to 19 games. The Tribunes finished a perfect 10-0 in WNYAC play and are 24-1 overall heading into next weekend's Region III, Division II tournament. The tourney will be played at MCC.
Coleman and Ayala combined for 37 points to help the Tribunes hold off the Thunderwolves. Coleman had 19 to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds. Ayala's 18 points came on the strength of 8-of-9 shooting from the floor.
Tyese Purvis also scored 19 for MCC. The sophomore hit three 3's and had five rebounds. Monroe outrebounded Niagara 52-34 on the day. Twenty-four of those boards came on the offensive glass, which helped the Tribunes carry an 82-to-61 edge in shots attempted.
Kiki Bynes had a career-best 13 assists to go along with eight points and nine rebounds. Bailey Hixson tallied 10 points, while Fannisha Price totaled eight points and six rebounds.
