Lady Tribunes outlast Mercyhurst
MCC runs its winning streak to 16 games.
ROCHESTER - The MCC women's basketball team gutted out a tough, 61-50 victory over Mercyhurst North East to move one step closer to clinching homecourt for the regional tournament.
Adre'onia Coleman had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals to lead the Tribunes, who moved to 7-0 in the Western New York Athletic Conference and 21-1 overall.
MCC needs to win one of its three remaining league games to clinch home floor. The Tribunes host Jamestown CC at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Saints led by as many as seven points midway through the first half. Kiki Bynes hit a 3 to tie it at 17, and Coleman followed with a layup to give the Tribunes their first league.
MCC never trailed again, though the Saints hung around until the end.
Deja Carroll had a pair of free throws and a 3 to give the Tribunes a 15-point lead with 4:29 remaining. Mercyhurst closed to within 10 down the stretch but could come no closer.
Bynes finished with 13 points and nine assists and Carroll tallied 12 points off the bench for Monroe.
The Tribunes prevailed despite 39 percent shooting on the night to go along with 22 turnovers. MCC did force Mercyhurst into 24 miscues.
