Red-hot Hixson lifts Monroe
The sophomore hits seven 3's in the victory over ASA
VALHALLA, New York - Thanks to a career-best effort from sophomore Bailey Hixson, the MCC women's basketball team earned an impressive, come-from-behind 68-63 victory over ASA College Monday afternoon.
Hixson connected on 7-of-9 shots from beyond the arc and scored a career-high 26 points to offset an otherwise poor shooting performance from the Tribunes (12-1). Outside of Hixson, MCC shot just 26 percent from the field (11-for-43).
Monroe also overcame a six-point halftime deficit.
Long distance turned out to be the answer for the Tribunes in a rematch of last year's district title game, where the Avengers edged Monroe in MCC's final season at the NJCAA Division I level. The Tribunes knocked down 13 3-pointers on the game, with Tyese Purvis connecting on four and Deja Carroll hitting two to complement Hixson's efforts.
Purvis finished with 18 points and Carroll added nine. Kiki Bynes tallied seven points, 11 assists, and five steals.
The Tribunes wrap up the ASA Holiday Classic with a Tuesday matinee against Essex County College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
