Lady Tribunes surge past Mustangs
A big run closing the first half propels MCC to the win.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The MCC women's basketball team broke open a tight game with a 13-0 run to end the first half and went on to a 66-55 victory over Monroe College at the Monroe Classic Saturday afternoon.
The Tribunes (5-0) will close out the tournament Sunday with a game against Hillsborough Community College at 11 a.m.
MCC led 24-22 after a Mustang basket with just over six minutes remaining before embarking on the game-changing run. It started with a bucket by Jasmine Myers and finished on a layup by Fannisha Price to make it 37-22 at the break.
The Tribunes then scored five quick points early in the second half on a baskey by Tolulope Ogunrinde and a 3 from Tyese Purvis to build its largest lead at 42-22.
The Mustangs chipped away at the deficit but couldn't come closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
Ogunrinde had a big game, finishing with 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting to go along with nine rebounds. Purvis hit four 3's and totaled 12 points.
Adre'onia Coleman chipped in with eight points, nine rebounds, and five steals.
