Tough defense helps Lady Tribunes
MCC forces 36 turnovers in a victory over Erie Community College.
BUFFALO - The MCC women's basketball team used a tenacious defensive effort to defeat Erie Community College 61-45 Saturday afternoon.
The win was the ninth in a row for the Tribunes, who move to 10-4 on the season.
Monroe forced 36 turnovers on the game and held the Kats to 27 percent shooting from the floor. The turnovers helped offset MCC's 26 percent shooting from the field.
Tyese Purvis (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) came up big off the bench for the Tribunes, pumping in a team-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. Rayia McKnight (Baltimore, MD/Western) and Dionne Coe (Brooklyn, NY/Murry Bergtraum) added 10 points apiece.
Coe chipped in with a team-leading five steals, while Donisha Watson (Bronx, NY/Mount Vernon) had six points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks. Karin Robinson (Queens, NY/Mary Louis Academy) finished with eight points, five assists, and two steals.
MCC travels to Genesee Tuesday night before returning home for a 6 p.m. game against Mercyhurst North East Thursday.
