ROCHESTER, Minnesota - The MCC softball team wrapped up a successful 2018 season with a fourth-place finish at the NJCAA Division III national tournament.

MCC defeated Brookdale 8-2 Friday morning, but suffered a 5-0 defeat to North Dakota State College of Science to finish in fourth.
The opener was a heartbreaker, as Lehigh Carbon scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. Monroe got the tying run in scoring position in the top of the seventh but couldn't push it across. Vicky Adkins finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Maria Marcera and Julia Grace added two hits apiece.
Emily DeFilippo was the star as Monroe routed Itasca in the second game of the day. The sophomore catcher finished 5-for-5 with a run scored and four RBIs to pace the Monroe offense.
The Tribunes put the game away with eight runs in the sixth inning. Marcera was 2-for-3 with a homer, four runs scored, and three RBIs. Amber Terlaje also drove in three and got the win on the mound, allowing two earned runs over six innings. MCC took advantage of 10 walks by Itasca pitchers.
Monroe then came back strong Friday morning in the win over Brookdale. Marcera continued her hot hitting by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Terlaje had two hits and drove in a pair, and Taylor House also added two hits. Terlaje scattered eight hits and allowed just one earned run for the victory on the hill.
