ROCHESTER - The MCC softball team picked up a pair of regional victories over Niagara County Community College, completing a doubleheader sweep in the team's regular season home finale on Thursday.
The Tribunes (18-8) scored the go-ahead runs in the sixth inning in a 4-3 victory in the opener. Monroe then took the nightcap by a score of 9-1.
MCC trailed 3-2 heading to the bottom of the sixth in game one. Jennifer Teerlinck led off with a triple to right field and came around to tie the game on a double off the bat of Amber Terlaje.
Taylor House followed with a hard single up the middle, which scored pinch runner Natalie Schinsing to put Monroe in front.
Terlaje then set the Thunderwolves down in order in the top of the seventh to put the game away. The sophomore went the distance, allowing two earned runs and striking out eight for her 11th win of the season.
Terlaje also finished with two hits and two RBIs, and Vicky Adkins added two hits and a run scored.
MCC scored in every inning to back a strong outing from Cassidy Geise to win game two in five innings. Geise allowed a run on three hits for the victory.
Teerlinck had an RBI single and Terlaje a sacrifice fly in the first as Monroe jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The Tribunes tacked on single runs in the second, third, and fourth before putting the game away with four in the fifth.
Teerlinck and Terlaje led off the fifth with back-to-back home runs. Maria Marcera then came through with a bases-loaded single that plated two.
Marcera finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead MCC. Teerlinck, Terlaje, Julia Grace, and Jen Newell all added two hits.
