CORNING, New York - The MCC softball team earned a split with Corning Community College in a matchup of two of the top teams in Region III on Saturday.
The Tribunes (9-1 region, 15-7 overall) won the first game 5-1 before the Red Barons rebounded to take the nightcap 14-10.
Amber Terlaje pitched Monroe to the victory in the opener. The sophomore went the distance, allowing one run on five hits while striking out six. Terlaje did not walk a batter as she picked up her ninth win of the season.
Tied at 1 heading to the top of the fifth, the Tribunes put up three runs to take control. Maria Marcera led off with a single and came around on a double by Vicky Adkins. Terlaje then plated another run on a base hit, and the final score came via a double steal.
Marcera, Adkins, Terlaje, and Jen Newell all had two hits on the game.
The Tribunes jumped out to a 7-3 lead in game two, but Corning rallied with three runs each in the third, fourth, and fifth to get the win.
Marcera continued her hot hitting by going 5-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Terlaje doubled three times and drove in three, while Jennifer Teerlinck was 2-for-4 with a home run. Julia Grace chipped in with three hits and Taylor House added two runs batted in.
