ROCHESTER - The MCC softball team stayed hot by sweeping a Region III doubleheader from visiting Finger Lakes Community College Thursday afternoon.
The Tribunes took the opener 10-0 in five innings and prevailed 12-2 in six frames in the nightcap. Monroe is 8-0 in regional play and 14-6 overall.
Amber Terlaje paced MCC with her arm and her bat. The sophomore scattered three hits and struck out three in a shutout performance in game one. She then went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs in game two.
Monroe took advantage of some wild FLCC pitching to jump out to a quick lead in the opener. The Tribunes drew seven walks and a hit batsman to take a 6-0 lead after just one inning.
MCC then put it away with four in the third. Maria Marcera had an RBI double and Natalie Schinsing added a run-scoring single to highlight the frame.
Schinsing and Taylor House finished with two RBIs each.
The Tribunes started quickly in game two as well, putting up two runs in each of the first two innings. Marcera tripled in the first before scoring on a sac fly from Vicky Adkins. Terlaje then went deep to left to make it 2-0.
MCC then doubled the lead in the second when a Laker error plated two runs.
FLCC got a run in the third before Monroe put up four in the fourth. Adkins had an RBI single, and Terlaje followed with a three-run homer to make it 8-1.
Cassidy Geise got the win on the mound, allowing one earned run on six hits while striking out three. Marcera, Jen Newell, and Jayme Lema all added two hits, while Colby Kidder drove in two.
