NORTH EAST, Pennsylvania - The MCC men's soccer team overcame terrible weather and field conditions to come away with a 2-1 win over Mercyhurst North East Saturday to claim the program's fifth straight Region III, Division I title, and 23rd overall.
Tournament MVP Jordan Sullivan opened the scoring late in the first half for the Tribunes (9-4-1), who now advance to next weekend's Northeast District championship at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Mass. Matchups will be announced shortly. Competing teams are MCC, Massasoit, Essex County College, and Monroe College.
Jacques Aristhenes added the eventual game-winner midway through the second half to stake the Tribunes to a 2-0 lead. The Saints cut the advantage in half a few minutes later, but Monroe was able to stave off any further Mercyhurst efforts to get the win.
Kyle Bimek made three saves in goal for MCC.
