ROCHESTER - Mercer County Community College scored once in each half to earn a 2-0 victory over Monroe Community College in a men's soccer matchup Sunday afternoon.
The Vikings (2-0-0) outshot the Tribunes (0-1-1) 15-3, including 6-0 in shots on goal. Mercer controlled the tempo throughout and would've scored more if not for a few acrobatic stops by Tribune keeper Michael Hunter.
Mercer got on the board in the seventh minute. A corner kick put the ball in front of the Monroe goal, and the Tribune attempt to clear went right to Jonas Castelhano da Silva.
da Silva controlled the ball and fired his shot to put the Vikings up 1-0.
The score remained that way until the 51st minute. With the Vikings on the attack, Adir Versano took a shot that Hunter dove and saved. Eiichi Yamaguchi followed and put the rebound home to provide the final margin.
Hunter finished with four saves on the game.
