Tribunes dominant in win over Broome
Monroe moves to 2-1 on the season.
ROCHESTER - Nick Kallio led a relentless attack with seven goals and the MCC men's lacrosse team put toghether a dominating performance in an 18-1 win over SUNY Broome Saturday afternoon.
The Tribunes (2-1) outshot the Hornets 61-18, had a 52-26 edge in ground balls, and forced 40 turnovers on the day. Monroe allowed Broome to clear just 17 out of 38 attempts.
Kallio also dished out a pair of assists, and TJ Day finished with three goals and seven assists. Brandon Barnhart tallied three goals as well.
The first goal of the day actually came from a Monroe defender. Trevor Knoepfler picked up a ground ball in the Hornet end, raced down the field, and fired a shot past the Hornet keeper for a 1-0 Tribune lead. Knoepfler had a great all-around day, also dishing out an assist, grabbing five ground balls, and forcing eight Broome turnovers.
Reed Perestam then followed with a man-up goal, and Kallio and Jared George found the back of the net as MCC led 4-0 after the first quarter.
Day made it 5-0 on an unassisted score midway through the second, and Kallio added three straight to make it 8-0 at the break.
Barhnart and Patrick Brewer each scored twice as Monroe put up six in the third. The Hornets didn't break the shutout until scoring a man-up goal with 10:30 left in the fourth.
Mark Campbell was stout in goal for the Tribunes. The sophomroe came through with 11 saves on the 12 shots he faced.
Adam Witscheber scopped up a game-high 11 ground balls and also added an assist for MCC. Bryce Saba collected eight ground balls.
