Tribunes split the weekend
Monroe tops Lackawanna, falls to Monroe.
NEW ROCHELLE, New York - The MCC men's basketball team split a pair of games at the Monroe College Roundball Classic over the weekend.
The Tribunes (7-5) took down No. 18 Lackawanna College 90-81 on Saturday before falling to the host Mustangs 100-53 on Sunday.
Majesty Brandon flirted with a triple-double as MCC clipped the Falcons. The sophomore guard scored 16, pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds, and dished out nine assists while also nabbing five steals. Monroe built a 16-point second half lead and held on down the stretch.
Gilberto Cue and Keith King added 16 points apiece to pace the Tribune offense. Brandon, Cue, and King were a combined 9-for-16 from beyond the arc as MCC hit 52 percent of its 3-point attempts on the night. Rodney Johnson II knocked a pair from deep and finished with 12 points, while Wes Nelson Jr. added 10.
Taylor Clements chipped in with nine points and seven boards, and Keysean Smith scored seven.
Sunday's contest went much differently, as the Mustangs opened a huge lead at the half and cruised to a win that avenged a defeat at the hands of MCC in November. Monroe College shot a blistering 59 percent from the field and held a 47-25 edge in rebounding.
Cue led MCC with 14 points and Nelson added 11.
