PHOENIX - The Monroe Community College baseball team is in Arizona for its annual spring trip. The Tribunes play 14 games out west to open the season. Check this page for updates as the trip progresses.

Friday, March 8
MCC 24, Malone U. JV 6
The Tribunes banged out three home runs and 21 total hits to cruise in their season opener. Vinny Bomasuto (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) had a huge game, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, and seven RBIs.  Brad Kaczka (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) added three hits, four runs scored, and four RBIs, and Rayshelon Carolina (Willemstad, Curacao/St. Jozef) finished with three hits and four runs. Angel Diaz (Humacao, PR/Geneva) and Danny Mendick (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) also homered. Nick DiBenedetto (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) got the win in relief, and Chris Manes (Oakfield, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) struck out five over the final two and a third.
 
Saturday, March 9
MCC 5, Marian U. JV 2
Monroe jumped out to an early lead on the strength of a two-run, inside-the-park homer from Brad Kaczka in the first inning.  Kaczka finished 2-for-3. The Tribunes added three runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run double from Angel Rosario (Bridgeport, CT/Bullard Havens). Vinny Bomasuto followed his strong opener with a pair of doubles. Steve Stoklosa (Victor, NY/McQuaid) got the win in relief, striking out two over three innings of work. Jalen Dennis (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) struck out two over the final two frames to notch the save.
 
Sunday, March 10
MCC 12, U. Arizona Club 3
A potent offense was once again key, as MCC pounded out 16 hits in the victory.  The Tribunes scored at least one run in each inning.  Jake Shattuck (Penfield, NY/Penfield) finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Brad Kaczka was 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Angel Rosario added three hits and Vinny Bomasuto added two hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Angel Diaz and Cam Stimpson (Philadelphia, PA/Friends) had two hits apiece.
 
MCC 9, Miles CC 6
The Tribunes trailed 6-5 entering the bottom of the sixth before scoring four runs to get the win. Brad Kaczka was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie it up, and an error on the leftfielder plated three more runs to provide the final margin. Steve Trubia (Chili, NY/Aquinas) picked up the win in relief, and Jalen Dennis struck out two in a perfect seventh to notch his second save.
 
Monday, March 11
Paradise Valley 7, MCC 3
Spencer Scorza (Penfield, NY/Penfield) drilled a three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Paradise Valley lead to 4-3, but PVCC responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half to get the win. Rayshelon Carolina and Vonny Bomasuto had a hit and a run scored each.
 
MCC 4, Paradise Valley 2
Nick DiBenedetto earned his second win of the spring trip, tossing 5 2/3 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. Spencer Scorza gave Monroe a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first. Troy Jones (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) added some cushion with a two-run single in the third, and Vinny Bomasuto drove in a run with an RBI double in the fourth.
 
Tuesday, March 12
MCC 4, Central Arizona 1, 8 innings
Danny Mendick broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning for Monroe. Mendick then came around to score on an error to provide the final margin. Jalen Dennis tossed two scoreless innings of relief to get the win. Steve Stoklosa started for MCC and allowed one unearned run and four hits over the first six innings.
 
Central Arizona 13, MCC 0
The Tribunes managed just four hits in the loss to the Vaqueros. Danny Mendick finished 2-for-3, and Joe Mesi and Jalen Dennis had the other hits. 
 
Wednesday, March 13
MCC 3, Scottsdale CC 0
Zach Melino tossed struck out five over eight scoreless innings as Monroe took down the third-ranked Artichokes. Jalen Dennis pitched a perfect ninth for his third save of the season. AJ Kehlenbeck and Danny Mendick had a hit and an RBI apiece. Brad Kaczka added a pair of hits and Angel Diaz had a double and a run scored.
 
Cochise College 7, MCC 1
Angel Rosario doubled and scored on a groundout by Brad Kaczka for Monroe's lone run. Vinny Bomasuto and Danny Mendick had the other hits.
 
Thursday, March 14
Yavapai 14, MCC 4
Danny Mendick had a two-run homer and Vinny Bomasuto an RBI triple for the Tribunes. Spencer Scorza drove in the other run with a single. MCC had six hits on the day.
 
Friday, March 15
MCC 7, Phoenix College 3
Rayshelon Carolina finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs for MCC. AJ Kehlenbeck also added three hits and Brad Kaczka had two hits and two runs batted in. Vinny Bomasuto allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings, striking out two.
 
Saturday, March 16
South Mountain 7, MCC 6
The Tribunes lead 6-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but South Mountain battled back to take the game in walk-off fashion. Brad Kaczka and Spencer Scorza each finished 3-for-5 at the plate and Angel Diaz drove in two runs. Jimmy Gutowski got the no-decision, tossing eight innings while allowing one run on two hits.
 
Chandler-Gilbert 7, MCC 1
The Tribs had nine hits but could only scratch across one run in the final game of the spring trip. Angel Rosario finished 3-for-4 for MCC (8-6). Brad Kaczka added two hits and Danny Mendick drove in the team's only run.
