NORTH EAST, Pennsylvania - The MCC baseball team's nine-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday, as the Tribunes dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Mercyhurst North East.
The Saints won 4-2 and 4-3. MCC falls to 25-11 overall and 5-3 in regional play.
Merchurst walked off with the win in the nightcap, as Wyatt Montgomery laced a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
The Tribunes had taken a 3-2 lead in the top half on a two-run double from Rayshelon Carolina (Willemstad, Curacao/St. Jozef).
Brad Kaczka (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored on the game. His base hit preceded an RBI double from Vinny Bomasuto (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) to give MCC a 1-0 lead in the top of the third.
Mercyhurst strung together four consecutive base hits in the fourth inning of the opener to take a 3-2 lead. The Saints then tacked on an insurance run in the sixth to get the win.
MCC scored both its runs in the second. Carolina drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Kaczka followed with a single to plate the second run. The Tribunes had six hits on the game.
